The main principle of the design is to create an appropriate and functional layout according to the competition brief, while preserving and complementing the existing architectural design of the building. We feel very strongly about the cultural-historical and artistic significance of the building in the context of Czechoslovak architecture and we base our design on the compositional principle, which we believe is the key quality of the existing building. We are building on the solid foundations of the past, which we are expanding for the future.
A legible layout based on a large and continuous public space that encircles the entire multifunctional cinema hall helps to activate the urban loggia, which we extend in the design to accommodate both the outdoor café space and the outdoor stage. The extension of the subtle and elegant slab covering this forecourt enhances the horizontality and asymmetry of the existing composition of the building.
