fountain in Znojmo

We didn’t design much, and we didn’t win much either.

Of course, we responsibly visited Znojmo and responsibly drank a few Znojmo beers…

Afterwards, we became convinced that Znojmo’s Upper Square did not need a new landmark — rather, it needed a quiet, functional element that would make spending time in the square more pleasant for its residents, both on scorching summer days and in bitter winter cold. We took one of the triangles from the existing paving pattern and placed within it an elementary L-shaped object made of polished concrete — a dam holding back water, a sun lounger for hot summer evenings, a bench at the bus stop, or a challenge for skateboarders… At the opposite vertex of the triangle, we placed an adjustable water nozzle — producing anything from a gently trickling spring to a jet of water shooting from the paving, or a mist hovering above the square.

In fact, it is essentially just a big puddle, prevented from spreading across the square by nothing more than a piece of concrete…
