Komařice living room
Our design for the community centre is based on interpersonal relationships – a value so characteristic of smaller communities. We present a solution drawn from personal experiences of social life in a village. A solution that aims to develop this undeniable value and thus create a new focal point for life in Komařice.
We regard the gamekeeper’s lodge as the most significant building in the area under consideration, and we approach it with great respect. We wish to restore the building’s original and long-lost details, thereby setting a high standard for similar renovations of valuable buildings in villages. We propose that the gamekeeper’s lodge house the village’s public administration – the village council offices.
We propose the community centre as a single-storey building with flexible spaces designed to foster a sense of community and social life. The shape and positioning of the building’s volume are based on the required functions and the connections between them. The main volume is the community hall, to which an elongated service block—culminating in a library—is attached at an acute angle. A distinctive pub-style space is created at the junction between the hall and the library. In the design, we place great emphasis on the interconnection between indoor and outdoor spaces. In our view, village life takes place primarily outdoors; we have therefore opted for a spacious covered seating area, which acts as a gentle link between the interior of the community centre and the newly designed village green.
Adjacent to the community centre, behind the village hall, we are proposing a simple steel-framed garage structure, which can be constructed in a subsequent phase of development independently of the other buildings. This is a purely utilitarian building that can be functionally divided into three sections: a fire station, a technical services garage and a storeroom. We propose installing solar panels on the roof.
In this design, we aim to create a high-quality public space that will encourage both local residents and casual visitors to the village to stop and linger. Around the community centre, we are proposing a wide range of amenities, including a drinking fountain, a children’s playground and a peaceful communal garden area.
